Liv Morgan Explains Her Unique Backstage Nickname
Liv Morgan recently revealed what her in-ring name could’ve ended up being.
Liv Morgan (Real Name: Gionna Daddio) is a beloved wrestler, and despite her badass Harley Quinn-inspired crazy in-ring character, she is soft, sensitive, and kind-hearted in real life.
She recently got candid on her appearance on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story podcast, where she talked about everything from her serious shoulder injury and subsequent recovery, to her getting arrested for possession of cannabis in Florida, to what could’ve ended up being her in-ring name instead of Liv Morgan.
Morgan says she always wanted a name that sounded less like a government name and more like a character name, which is why she settled for Liv Morgan, but before she got to that point, multiple name ideas she gave were rejected.

During the interview, Stephanie recalls her husband, Paul Levesque (Triple H), revealing to her that Liv Morgan wants to call herself “Oprah,” leaving Stephanie completely surprised. Morgan laughs, claiming that there’s lore behind it, and goes on to clear misconceptions about it.
Morgan reveals that three lists of character names that she gave to the company were rejected, so she told them that if they didn’t like any on her third list, she would settle for “Oprah” (Like celebrity Oprah Winfrey)

I think there’s a little misconception here.So what had happened was, you know, you get to NXT and they’re like, what would you like to be called? And they give you, you get to write a list of names. And so I hand in a list of names, and they’re like, none of these.
And I’m like, okay. So they ask for a second name. I really wanted to not have a proper name.
I didn’t want it to sound like a government name. I wanted it to clearly sound like a character. I really wanted like, Illy Milly.
Which I still stand by, I still stand by that. That’s for a second list, and I give a second list, and they’re like, no.
Morgan jokes that Oprah is stuck backstage, and Triple H still calls her by that name to tease her at times.
I give like a third list, and then at the bottom, I’m kind of like just, and at this point, I’m being a little bit cheeky.
I’m like, any of these would do, or I’ll just settle for Oprah. For some reason, the Oprah stuck, and no one ever let me live it down after that. Sometimes I’ll still see Hunter, and he’ll be like, Oprah, and I’m like, my God.
