Legendary Faction No Longer Exists In WWE History
WWE has seemingly erased any leftover presence of one of its legendary factions.
The Nexus was a dominant group that was formed a few months after NXT became a regular televised program in 2010.
Led by Wade Barrett, its members debuted on the June 7 episode of RAW that year, attacking John Cena, Jerry Lawler, Justin Roberts, and other personnel around the ring.
Over the next few weeks, they carried out similar attacks on the Stamford promotion’s employees, regardless of their status. At one point, even Bret “The Hitman” Hart and Vince McMahon fell victim.
The faction soon picked up a feud with John Cena, culminating in a 7-on-7 elimination match between The Nexus and Cena’s team at WWE SummerSlam 2010.
The closing minutes of the match saw Cena being the sole surviving member against Barrett and Justin Gabriel.
Cena then eliminated Gabriel before making Barrett tap out to his STF submission. The highly controversial ending is considered to be the reason why The Nexus never regained its prominence, ultimately getting disbanded in 2011.
Has WWE Erased The Nexus From History?
Heath Slater, who was one of the initial members of The Nexus, recently appeared on Rewind Recap Relive, where he spoke about The Nexus getting buried.
He also said that the faction deserved some form of participation in John Cena’s retirement tour, considering it was one of his biggest rivals.
I’m p*****. I don’t want to say I’m p*****, John Cena deserves everything that he’s going to get, he dedicated his life and soul to this business, and that’s a fact. But, out of how long of the run that he had, we, as a group, Nexus, had a huge feud with John Cena. I feel, and this is just me, and I already know it’s not going to happen so no spoiler alert. I wish we would’ve planted the seeds six months ago, just so we could’ve watered it and hopefully it would have grown.
He even revealed someone in WWE telling him that The Nexus was a forgotten entity in the company.
I asked a buddy of mine that’s still up there, he said they they pretty much just swept Nexus underneath the rug and we’re not even existing anymore. It’s one of those things where I think it could be cool if the music hit, we all came down either to hurt or help John Cena. I feel like it could’ve been a cool moment just for the nostalgia of the people.
