Former Rival Says They Learned A Lot From Mercedes Mone Defeat
A top star used their match with Mercedes Mone as a chance to learn.
During a busy weekend, Mercedes Mone made the second defence of her CMLL Women’s Championship at the company’s Viernes Espectaculares event on October 17 in Mexico.
She followed that up by beating Mina Shirakawa for the ROH Interim Women’s TV Championship 24 hours later, before defeating Jody Threat to claim the Winnipeg Pro Wrestling Women’s Title on October 19.
As a result, Mone is now the proud holder of 12 championship belts, surpassing the previous record set by Ultimo Dragon during the 1990s.
Mercedes Mone Helped Star Gain Confidence
During an appearance on Busted Open After Dark, CMLL star Persephone reflected on her match with Mone, revealing that although she lost, she was still able to learn a lot. She explained that being able to go toe-to-toe with Mone for nearly 20 minutes proved that she belonged at the top level.
“Oh, for sure. I’m bringing that title home back to CMLL one day. But I’m honestly really happy with that match even though the outcome wasn’t what I wanted that night. But, I think what I left with was this sense of security, knowing that I can hang with a top dog.
Because obviously, Mercedes (Moné) has a long history, much longer than mine and a strong background and everything she’s done, accomplished.
So there’s always that fear of can I hang with someone who’s been doing this so long, who’s obviously accomplished so much so, I didn’t leave with the title but I left with this confidence that hell yeah, I can hang with someone like that.”
Next up for Mercedes Mone is a clash with Kris Statlander for the AEW Women’s World Championship at Full Gear. Mone has only challenged for AEW’s top prize once before, losing to “Timeless” Toni Storm at All In Texas. This remains Mone’s only loss since becoming All Elite in March 2024.
