LA Knight Expresses Frustration With WWE Spot
LA Knight isn’t happy about being out of the championship picture in WWE.
The rise of LA Knight in 2023 saw the cocky superstar go from being a heel that lost to Bray Wyatt in under ten minutes at the Royal Rumble to a main event performer by the fall.
At WWE Crown Jewel in November 2023, LA Knight challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and fell short of winning the title due to The Bloodline. At the Royal Rumble, Knight got another shot at Roman’s title in a four-way with Randy Orton and AJ Styles, but Styles was pinned to lose the match.
There was a World Heavyweight Title shot on the line at WWE Elimination Chamber, but Knight lost that due to a cheap attack from Styles. It appears as though Knight and Styles will be having a match at WrestleMania 40.
In an interview with Gorilla Position, LA Knight was asked if he was frustrated about not being in the title picture going into WrestleMania 40.
“Yes, yeah. In a certain way. So I look at my career in a sense of, 2023, in all reality, should never have happened the way it happened. That was insanity, that was crazy how I mean literally, legitimately, there were no plans for me until the Royal Rumble. There was nothing.”
“I was there because I was trusted to be good enough to hang with Bray and make him look good. I think I did that. But in the process, my god, did a light shine. But for whatever reason, there were plans for me after that. For things to go the way that they did in the last year is amazing. But I get all these congratulations and everybody’s like, ‘You’ve done so much.’
“I’m like, I have, but everything that I’ve done, from a career standpoint, pretty good. But from a merit standpoint, from a standpoint of adding to the resume, saying, ‘Hey, this guy’s been an Intercontinental Champion, this guy’s been a United States Champion, this guy’s been a United States Champion, this guy’s been a WWE Champion, World Heavyweight Champion, Money in the Bank, Royal Rumble winner”, any of that stuff, I really don’t have anything to hang my hat on in that regard.”
Knight continued talking about how he built a foundation in 2023 and he wants to keep it going.
“So for that, yeah, I’m kind of like, okay, there’s gotta be a time now where I start…I created one hell of a foundation in 2023. Now it’s time to go and start creating a legacy and making those things to hang my hat on, start building the resume to where people can say, alright, this guy legitimately can make a claim to being one of the best of this era, if not one of the best in the whole thing.”
LA Knight Believes His Rise In WWE Never Happened Before
As he continued to talk about his career, LA Knight explained why he thinks a rise like his has been seen in WWE before.
“For me, you look at what happened over the last year, and honestly I can say, agree with it or disagree with it, that has never happened ever in the history of the business. There have been guys who have gotten crazy, crazy over in a short amount of time. It’s because they had rocket pushes. I had none until finally their hand was forced.”
“So in that regard, this has never, ever happened to where there were no expectations put on someone, and all of a sudden, they lit the damn world on fire. That’s cool, but to me, it’s like, alright, cool. I’ve proven the worth. Now, let’s build the empire. So yeah, is there a little frustration in regard? I suppose. But at the same time, you don’t think I’m gonna walk into WrestleMania and make this a big one, boy oh boy. We’re gonna have a good time.”
The two major men’s championship matches at WrestleMania 40 will take place on Sunday, April 7th when Seth “Freakin” Rollins defends the World Heavyweight Title against Drew McIntyre while Roman Reigns will defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Title against Cody Rhodes for the second year in a row.
