LA Knight Has Big Plans For Second WWE US Title Reign
LA Knight has won the WWE United States Title for a second time and he has plenty of ideas for what he wants to do as the champion.
It was a week full of main event title changes in WWE. Iyo Sky shocked the world on Raw when she beat Rhea Ripley to win the Women’s World Title while Shawn Spears picked up a crafty victory over Tony D’Angelo to become the NXT North American Champion.
In the main event of WWE SmackDown in Philadelphia, LA Knight beat Shinsuke Nakamura to regain the US Title that Knight lost to Nakamura last November at Survivor Series.
There was some controversy regarding the finish of the match. Nakamura brought a chair into the ring, so referee Charles Robinson took the chair and put it down. Nakamura tried to spit red mist in Knight’s face, but Knight ducked and Nakamura’s red mist went into Robinson’s face. Knight got a rollup for no count because the referee wasn’t there. Nakamura hit a spinning kick to the head. Nakamura stepped up and hit a Scorpio Rising kick.
After Nakamura had Knight down again, Nakamura tried a chair attack, Knight kicked the chair into Nakamura’s face and Knight hit a BFT onto the steel chair. That’s when referee Dan Engler went into the ring as Knight covered Nakamura and Knight got the pinfall win.
LA Knight posted a video on X/Twitter where talked about his title victory.
“It’s been too long, man. Way too long. What I need to do is I need to get these [sideplates] off here. What I need to do is get that LA Knight back on there. What I need to do is get that strap on, and what I need to do is take this title back to places, maybe that it once was, but to places that it’s never been.
What I need to do is take this title all over the damn world. I think we’re going to Europe not too long from now, and the US Champ, the US Title, coming on over there, and I’ll tell you what, just the same as here in the US, you can all pledge allegiance to the champ of the United States, with everybody saying, ‘LA Knight.’ Two times, we did it again.”
There is a WWE international tour throughout March, including next week’s Smackdown taking place in Barcelona, Spain.
LA Knight Thought His Career May Not Go Anywhere
The first time Knight held the United States Title his reign lasted for 118 days from SummerSlam to Survivor Series. The popular champion will look to have a longer reign this time.
While speaking to WWE’s Byron Saxton in a SmackDown exclusive YouTube video, LA Knight was in a celebratory mood while reflecting on how there was a point in his career where he thought he would never have success like this.
“Two times. Two times, United States Champion. It was only a few years ago, I thought my career was never gonna go anywhere. I thought my career was kind of nearing its end, and here I am, all the sudden just taking off, all the sudden just winning the United States Championship not once, but twice.
When I think about it, it took me how many times last week to get here? Two times. Why? Because I had to wrestle some goof one time last week. Then I had to wrestle two other goofs another time last week. Two times to get here, two times the champion. Two times is nice. Double mint gum. Oh yeah, double mint twins, are they gonna be here? Nah, nah. But that’s okay because you got this man just dropping BFTs on everybody, turning three into two.
Two-time US Champ, and there ain’t nothing anybody can do about it. Shinsuke Nakamura, you had a nice little reign in the shadows. Hope you enjoyed it, but now we’re bringing it out to the light like nobody else can. Once again, we can all pledge allegiance to the champ of the United States of America. Yeah.”
