Kurt Angle Believes Ex-WWE Star Is Better Athlete Than Brock Lesnar
Kurt Angle says a recently released WWE superstar might be a better athlete than even the great Brock Lesnar.
When it comes to being an elite all-around athlete, WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle is considered by many people to be among the best. That’s because Angle was an Olympic Gold Medalist in wrestling in 1996.
Another name that is often mentioned as a tremendous all-around athlete is former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar, who was also an incredible amateur wrestler and also a UFC Heavyweight Champion. In Lesnar’s case, he is about 50 pounds heavier than Angle and could do anything in the WWE ring.
While speaking on The Kurt Angle Show (via One True Sport), the WWE Hall of Famer spoke about how recently released WWE star Gable Steveson, who is also an Olympic Gold Medal wrestler, may even be a better athlete than Lesnar. Steveson signed with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills following his WWE departure, so Angle addressed Gable’s athletic prowess.
“I’m not surprised. The kid’s a super athlete. You think Brock Lesnar is an athlete? This kid, he might be a little tad bit better athlete than Brock Lesnar. That’s very difficult for me to say. Especially for Brock’s size, he’s an incredible athlete.”
“Him and Gable Steveson are, but this guy, I mean, he is so diverse. He’s fast, he’s athletic. I’ve seen him do backflips just standing there. He’s a 250-pound monster. For him to be able to do stuff like that, it’s just incredible.”
“So I wasn’t surprised that he signed with the Buffalo Bills. I’m surprised they didn’t put him on the practice team for a little bit because he never played football before, at least not in college. But I think he’s gonna make a huge impact right away, I really do. It’s crazy, but he’s a one-in-a-lifetime individual, and that’s how I think of him.”
Kurt Angle Recalls What Gable Steveson Told Him When They Met
As the discussion continued, Angle said that Gable was very confident in his abilities and he told Angle something that made Angle laugh a bit.
“I met him. He’s like, ‘Hey, Kurt Angle, I just want to tell you, I respect your career, and I want to be just like you.’ I was like, ‘Oh, thank you, Gable.’ He goes, ‘You know what? No, I want to be better than you.’ I was like, holy s**t. [Laughs] What an a**hole thing to say [laughs]. I said, ‘Well, good luck, man.”
Considering Steveson only had one televised match in his WWE career, it’s fair to say that he isn’t better than Angle as a pro wrestler.
