Kurt Angle Wants Career To Get More Credit
Kurt Angle believes he should receive greater credit for a large percentage of his in-ring career.
The Olympic Gold Medalist and WWE Hall Of Famer is widely respected as one of the all-time greats in professional wrestling having made an unprecedented impact after making his WWE in-ring debut at Survivor Series 1999.
Within a year the Pittsburgh native had been crowned WWE Champion before then embarking on one of the most decorated stints in company history.
After a sensational run in WWE, Kurt Angle departed the company in 2006 and spent the next decade in TNA, later rebranded as IMPACT Wrestling. Angle would go on to lift a whole host of titles including becoming the inaugural TNA World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Sting and Chrisian Cage in a triple threat match at TNA Sacrifice on 13th May 2007.
Superstars like AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe would cut their teeth in the promotion alongside it’s other more established stars such as Mick Foley, Booker T, Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash.
During a recent conversation with Bill Pritchard of WrestleZone, Angle detailed his frustration that his tenure in TNA does not receive the same level of credit as his initial run in WWE.
“I always get, ‘You know, Kurt Angle would have been the best of all time if he would have stuck in the WWE and wrestled there for 20 years.’ That may be true, but what’s the difference?
I wrestled in TNA for 11 of my 20 years, and I think that should be added on. I had a better career in TNA. I was wrestling guys like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe and Sting. I had a lot better career in TNA because I came into my own.
When you’re a professional wrestler, it takes you about six or seven years to really master your craft. That’s when I left WWE after six years. I went to TNA and I was a man on a mission there. I just did incredibly well there.”
Kurt Angle Rules Out In-Ring Return
Despite previously revealing his disappointment in the way his in-ring career came to a close, Kurt Angle has categorically ruled out returning for one final WWE bout.
Angle stepped foot into a WWE ring for the final time at WrestleMania 35 on 7th April 2019, suffering a comprehensive defeat to Baron Corbin.
The former WWE Champion has previously stated that his preferred opponent for his farewell would have been former rival John Cena. With 2025 announced as Cena’s last of a glittering in-ring career, many have questioned if Angle would return for one final battle with his old foe but the legendary Superstar recently dismissed those rumours.
