Kurt Angle Surprised As Fans Drop Unfortunate Nickname
Kurt Angle has expressed his surprise and gratitude to wrestling fans as they dropped an unfortunate nickname given to the WWE Hall of Famer.
When Kurt Angle left WWE in 2006 it came as a surprise to fans. And there was an even greater surprise later that year when he began a decade-long run in TNA. Angle will go down in history as one the best in-ring competitors in history and during his early days in TNA he was considered the best in the world by many.
But that came during a dark time in Angle’s life when he was battling addiction issues, not least with painkillers. In recent years, that earned the Olympic gold medallist the nickname “Perc Angle” due to his use of Percocet. Although meant in a loving way by fans, Kurt Angle revealed the nickname hurt due to it reminding him of a dark time in his life. And fans took note.
Kurt Angle Thankful Fans Dropped “Perc Angle”
Speaking with Bro Bible, Kurt Angle noted he was surprised by how fans reacted to his wishes as they rallied round to stamp out the unfortunate nickname, something he’s grateful for:
I was really pleasantly surprised that they responded that way. It makes me know that I have true fans out there that really enjoyed my career and loved me for what I did. I’m just grateful that they’re going to drop the name ‘Perc Angle.’
It reminds me of a dark time in my life, and it’s something that I don’t want to have to deal with it anymore. I dealt with it already, and it’s behind me. Hearing Perc Angle just makes me think I’m known for that. It was not cool. I’m just glad that they’re now using Peak Angle, instead I’m very grateful for that.
Peak Angle is indeed the favoured moniker from fans who want to celebrate that time in his career. Kurt Angle might want to figure out how to get them to stop chanting ‘You Suck!’ any time he makes his way to the ring next.
