Kurt Angle Recalls Storyline He Hated Seeing In WWE
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has shared his dislike for a storyline that didn’t involve himself that he said “wasn’t very tasteful.”
During the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Era’s, WWE gained success by pushing boundaries but they went too far with one storyline according to Kurt Angle.
The blurring of reality saw WWE use a real-life affair and create a heated storyline that Angle was not comfortable with.
In 2005 fans were aware that Lita had been cheating on Matt Hardy with Edge, who was married at the time. Despite Matt Hardy giving the storyline his blessing, many WWE fans were shocked to see the company recreate the affair.
At the start of 2006, WWE went even further, placing a bed in the middle of the ring on Raw so that the Rated R Superstar Edge could celebrate becoming WWE Champion in bed with Lita live on air.
Kurt Angle was discussing the storyline on his The Kurt Angle Show podcast and called into question its timing.
“I was really tight with Edge and Christian and the Hardy Boyz and when they did that whole thing I didn’t like it.”
“To be honest with you, it wasn’t very tasteful. I understand why they were doing it, and I understand Matt Hardy was on board with it, but I didn’t like it. I thought it was just sh*t.”
“A lot of people would love to see Lita naked, don’t get me wrong,”
“But that wasn’t the right time or the place.”
The Olympic Gold Medalist would go on to showcase his admiration for Lita as a WWE Superstar, discussing how she was “always there at the right times”.
“Lita was a professional, she never missed a spot when she worked with the Hardys, she was always there at the right times,”
“You know what, Lita was easy to work with, so hitting her with the Angle Slam was nothing.”
Edge recently celebrated his 25th Anniversary in WWE had become a main event Superstar during the Ruthless Aggression Era, and after being forced to retire due to injury, the former WWE Champion made a shock return at the 2020 Royal Rumble.
The Canadian is set to return to WWE next Friday on SmackDown to be a guest on The Grayson Waller Effect, taking place inside the historic Madison Square Gardens.
Waller has already clashed with a WWE Icon this week after interrupting John Cena during Saturday’s Money In The Bank.
Cena made a surprise appearance to thank the UK fans but Grayson Waller made his way to the ring and after Waller attacked Cena, the joint-record Sixteen-Time WWE Champion floored the Australian to the delight of the raucous London crowd.
