Kurt Angle Learned The Most From This WWE Legend
Kurt Angle has looked back on his glittering career and the stars who helped him climb to the top of the wrestling industry.
After initially making it very clear that he wanted nothing to do with professional wrestling, Kurt Angle signed with WWE in 1998.
Angle famously picked up the nuances of life inside the squared circle quicker than just about anyone in history, and by late 1999, he’d already arrived on the main roster.
By the time Angle hung up his boots, some 20 years later, he’d established himself as a legend with a string of classic matches behind him in both WWE and TNA. But he didn’t make it to the top without some key guidance from fellow megastars along the way.
Kurt Angle Worked With The Best
While speaking with Going Ringside, Angle reflected on getting the chance to learn from The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Olympic gold medallist credited Rock with helping him with cutting promos, but he revealed that he learned the most from Austin, who was a great improviser.
“He was so entertaining, the guy was such a phenomenal athlete. And his promo skills were above everybody else’s. He taught me a lot about cutting promos. He taught me a lot about wrestling in the ring.
‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin actually was the one guy that I learned the most from. He was one of those guys who would call the match out in the ring, you know? He was an old-school wrestler. That means you don’t plan a lot of it backstage, you just go out there and do it. Improvise. And he was a great improviser. Him and Triple H and Undertaker were three of the best improvisers I’ve ever wrestled.”
More recently, Kurt Angle has joined Real American Freestyle Wrestling as a commentator. The company was founded by Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff back in July, and Angle has since revealed that he initially turned down the spot over money.
