Kurt Angle Says AEW Star Can Have A Great Match With Anyone
Kurt Angle has reiterated his love for one AEW star.
For many long-time fans, Kurt Angle was arguably the best wrestler of his generation. And that’s a mantle that’s since been picked up by the likes of Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay.
Since he retired, Angle has repeatedly shouted out Omega, saying he would have loved to have shared the ring with the Best Bout Machine.
During a recent virtual signing with K&S WrestleFest, Angle was asked if there was anyone who stood out to him in AEW. Unsurprisingly, the veteran was quick to praise Kenny Omega.
“I love Kenny Omega. I think he’s a great talent. He can have a 5-star match with just about anybody. Kid’s really well-versed. I didn’t know about the injuries but man I saw the one match with him and the kid from the UK [Will Ospreay]. That was a match to remember. They lit it up that night.”
Kurt Angle Discusses Ever-Changing Wrestling Industry
When asked about the differences between himself and Omega, Angle said a lot comes down to how the industry as a whole has changed. The WWE Hall of Famer said his matches tended to feature fewer high spots compared to today, but as always, wrestling continues to be cyclical.
“What you’re getting today is you’re getting a lot better athletes. That are doing more dangerous stunts, more stunt work than really wrestling and working in the ring. But I think that’s because the business evolved. People like to see high-action wrestling matches.
When I wrestled Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero it was all technique. It was technical matches. We didn’t do a lot of crazy stuff. I think there is always room for that. I think it will eventually come back again as it has in the past.”
During the same signing, Kurt Angle said he’d love to manage WWE Raw’s American Made but quickly ruled out getting back in the ring. Angle hasn’t wrestled since being defeated by Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.
