Kota Ibushi’s First AEW Opponent In 19 Months Named
Kota Ibushi is set to make his long-awaited return to an AEW ring.
On the June 21 edition of Collision, Kota Ibushi made his surprise return to AEW to help take down the Don Callis Family.
During the show, Callis and Kazuchika Okada proudly boasted about their recent defeat of Kenny Omega, while claiming that if he does make it to All In Texas for his match against Okada, he’ll be alone.
This brought out Mark Briscoe, who said he was Omega’s friend, but crucially, not his only friend. At this, Ibushi joined Briscoe at the top of the ramp before they got into a wild brawl with those in the ring. As Briscoe clashed with Lance Archer, Ibushi took out Josh Alexander before going toe-to-toe with Okada.
Ibushi has a close relationship with Omega going back to their time in Japan as the Golden Lovers, while he also has an extensive history with Okada.
Kota Ibushi Returning To Action In AEW
Following that surprise comeback, it was announced that Ibushi will square off against Trent Beretta on the June 25 edition of Dynamite.
The match will be Ibushi’s first in AEW since teaming with Paul Wight, Kenny Omega, and Chris Jericho to defeat the Don Callis Family in a Street Fight on the November 15, 2023, edition of Dynamite. Due to injury, Ibushi has wrestled just 11 times in total since that match.
At present, Ibushi vs. Beretta is the only match announced for Dynamite.
