Konosuke Takeshita Gets Double Title Chance At NJPW Wrestle Kingdom
AEW star Konosuke Takeshita now knows what he’ll have to face at Wrestle Kingdom as he gets the chance to win more NJPW gold.
Konosuke Takeshita made history when he became the first AEW-contracted star to win the hallowed G1 Climax tournament in 2025. Takeshita was only just beginning, however, as he went one step further when he captured the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship from Zack Sabre Jr. at King of Pro Wrestling in October.
Now, with Wrestle Kingdom on January 4th 2026, creeping ever closer, Takeshita now knows what awaits him in the Tokyo Dome.
Konosuke Takeshita Could Win Even More Gold
NJPW announced several matches for its annual spectacular, with Konosuke Takeshita set to clash with IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji in a double title, winner-take-all match. But that won’t be the only double title match on the show.
NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Saya Kamitani will clash with IWGP Women’s Champion Syuri with both belts on the line.
However, the Tokyo Dome show will no doubt be remembered for hosting the last-ever match of Hiroshi Tanahashi. Tanahashi’s opponent for the event has not been announced, but rumours have swirled that a current WWE star could stand across the ring from NJPW’s Ace one last time.
The company is also looking to its future as well as it’s been confirmed that Olympian Aaron Wolf’s first match in NJPW will take place at Wrestle Kingdom when he challenges EVIL for the NEVER Openweight Championship.
