Konnan Will Induct Rey Mysterio Into WWE Hall Of Fame
Following the announcement of Rey Mysterio going into the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame, it has also been announced that Konnan will induct his good friend.
Whenever somebody gets inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, there are often times when fans wonder who will induct the person. Sometimes it’s a family member, other times it’s a prominent fellow wrestler and sometimes there isn’t anybody because WWE just wants to get through the ceremony without going too long.
In the case of Rey Mysterio, one of his best lifelong friends will do the honor: wrestling legend Konnan.
The news was reported by the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer:
“Konnan will be inducting Rey into the Hall of Fame. Rey asked for him and the company approved it. As noted last night, to me it was the only choice.”
Konnan inducting Rey Mysterio into the WWE Hall of Fame was also reported by the Los Angeles Times.
On last night’s March 10th edition of Smackdown, WWE announced Rey Mysterio as the first inductee in this year’s WWE Hall of Fame ceremony taking place on Friday, March 31st in Los Angeles after Smackdown. Even though WWE rarely puts active wrestlers into their Hall of Fame, Rey is a very deserving choice as a former three-time WWE World Champion and he’s also from the San Diego area, so a lot of his family should be able to attend.
As for Konnan, he has been good friends with Rey for a very long time. Konnan is a Mexican wrestling legend that was with Rey when he started wrestling in the early 1990s. When they got together in WCW, Rey and Konnan were often together as on-screen allies. When A&E did an in-depth Biography on Rey, Konnan was featured heavily in it.
During his legendary wrestling career, Konnan was briefly in WWE as Max Moon, but the gimmick didn’t work out. Konnan is most known for his WCW run, then he worked for TNA Wrestling, he’s been a booker in Mexico and obviously had a lot of success in the ring.
Rey Mysterio is expected to wrestle his son Dominik at WrestleMania 39 on April 1st or April 2nd, but the match isn’t official yet.
