Kofi Kingston Gives Unexpected Take On That Brock Lesnar Match
KofiMania ran wild at WrestleMania 35 as Kofi Kingston finally ascended to the top of the wrestling business when he captured the WWE Championship.
Kingston’s win came amid rampant crowd support that had begun building at the Elimination Chamber two months before WrestleMania. Ironically, it was Daniel Bryan that Kingston had to overcome to win the WWE Title five years after Bryan rode the wave of the masses to his own unforgettable WrestleMania win.
However, Kofi Kingston’s run as champion came crashing to an end in October 2019 on the first edition of SmackDown on FOX. Brock Lesnar challenged Kingston for the gold and while nobody may have been too surprised at Lesnar defeating Kingston, his seven-second win over The New Day star left fans and WWE stars outraged.
Kofi Kingston Doesn’t Get Paid By The Hour
Speaking to SEScoops, Kofi Kingston gave his thoughts on the infamous bout and while he wishes it could have gone longer, he was a lot more philosophical about the situation than his legion of fans were able to be:
There’s two lines of thought on it. One, I don’t get paid by the hour, so that is probably the most amount of money that I’ve made in the least amount of time on the roster.
But obviously, when you have a WWE Championship match, especially with what it meant to win that title, I would’ve loved for it to have last longer and I would’ve loved to beat Brock Lesnar, but of course, I came up short.
Since his loss to Brock Lesnar, Kofi Kingston has only had a single televised one-on-one match for the WWE Championship. That came at Money In The Bank 2021 when Kingston lost to then-champion Bobby Lashley.
Wrestling fans should not expect to see Brock Lesnar anytime soon following his implication in the sickening lawsuit filed against Vince McMahon. Brock Lesnar has been pulled from creative plans by WWE leaving his future in the company hanging in the balance.
