Kofi Kingston Sets Impressive New Record
At NXT Deadline, Kofi Kingston made history when he broke a longstanding WWE record.
The New Day duo of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods made their surprise return to NXT on December 6th, attacking the Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly and challenging them to a title match.
The bout took place days later at NXT Deadline. It was a fast-paced affair that saw Pretty Deadly trying everything to keep their recently-won championships, including sending Kofi Kingston throat-first into the ropes and attacking Woods with one of the title belts.
However, they couldn’t overcome the veteran tag team and the match ended when Kingston hit Trouble in Paradise on Kit Wilson and followed up with the Midnight Hour double foot stomp on Elton Prince for the pinfall victory.

The win not only marks the first time The New Day has held the NXT Tag Team Championships but means Kofi Kingston has set a new WWE record as the most decorated Tag Team Champion of all time with an astonishing 15 reigns to his name, beating out Edge on 14.
While the majority of his tag titles have been held alongside his New Day teammates, Kofi Kingston first held tag team gold way back in 2008 when he and CM Punk won the World Tag Team Championships from The Legacy – Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr.
In 2011 and 2012, Kingston also had lengthy tag reigns with R-Truth and Evan Bourne.
