Kevin Owens Yet To Undergo Surgery, Star Admits In-Ring Future In Doubt
Kevin Owens is making no promises.
On the April 4 edition of SmackDown, Kevin Owens announced that he was being forced to miss WrestleMania and his match with Randy Orton. Not only that, he needed to undergo neck surgery and could be out of the ring for well over a year.
Owens’ place at WrestleMania was eventually taken by TNA star Joe Hendry, who The Viper dispatched in short order.
From the moment Owens announced he was injured, it’s been repeatedly stated in several reports and by the man himself that his recovery won’t be a quick process. But even so, Kevin Owens’ doctor is taking things incredibly slowly.
Kevin Owens Is Feeling Cautious Ahead Of Surgery
During a new interview with Bernard Colas for e10Sport, Owens explained that he’s yet to undergo surgery, but that’s by design. The former World Champion and his doctor are waiting to see how well his body recovers on its own before eventually going under the knife.
“I still haven’t had the surgery. There’s a lot of things to consider before the surgery,” Owens stated. “We’re waiting to see how things progress naturally. There’s no doubt I need surgery, but before we do the surgery, we just have to see how much it can slightly improve without surgery… It’s a very slow process. You just have to have patience.”
Owens went on to reiterate that his neck is in “very bad shape,” while admitting he’s lucky things weren’t even worse, given that he wrestled at the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber while he was already struggling.
Owens added that there’s no guarantee that he’ll ever wrestle again.
“It would be… false to be able to tell you right now that I will absolutely return to the ring… I don’t know if that’s true.”
Meanwhile, it’s been suggested that fellow long-term absentee Zoey Stark won’t wrestle again before WrestleMania 42.
