Kevin Owens Was Told WWE Career Would Have Limitations
Kevin Owens says his WWE career path was supposed to go differently than what happened.
After spending the past decade in WWE, Kevin Owens is still at the top of the card with a chance to win the WWE Championship for the first time. While Owens is a former WWE Universal Champion after winning it in 2016, he hasn’t held the more prestigious WWE Championship yet.
In addition to being a former Universal Champion, Owens has also been the Intercontinental Champion (twice), United States Champion (three times), and Tag Team Champion. Owens also main evented WrestleMania Saturday in back-to-back years. The first WrestleMania main event was against Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38, and then Owens won the Tag Team Titles with Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 39 against The Usos.
While speaking with Collider, Kevin Owens admitted that early in his WWE career, he was told that he wouldn’t go very far.
“When I first signed with WWE, I was basically told I’d probably stay in ‘NXT’ and never really see the light of day on ‘Raw’ or ‘SmackDown.’ And then, about eight, nine months later, I was on ‘Raw’ with John Cena.
From that point on, I’ve had WrestleManias, I’ve had titles, and I’ve been in the ring with my favorite wrestler of all time, Steve Austin. I’ve been able to take care of my family in a way I never fathomed.”
Kevin Owens Is Happy With His WWE Career So Far
As he spoke about current goals, Owens had more WrestleMania dreams including the main event of night two of WWE’s biggest show of the year.
“I’d love to be world champion again. I’d love to Main Event WrestleMania night two, since I’ve done night one already. I’d love to have a match with Rey Mysterio . But if my career ends tomorrow, I’d still be happy with what I’ve done.”
At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, Kevin Owens will challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Title in a match that could lead to Owens fulfilling some of the goals he has set for himself.
The card for Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14th on NBC is below.
