Kevin Owens Says One Of His WrestleMania Main Events “Just Edges Out” The Other
Kevin Owens has been in WrestleMania main events two years in a row, so it’s difficult to rate which one was more special to him.
Since WWE changed the format of WrestleMania in 2020 to a two-night event, it has led to more people being able to say they are WrestleMania main events. While Roman Reigns main evented WrestleMania Sunday in the last three years, WWE superstars like Sasha Banks, Bianca Belair, Sami Zayn, The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) and Kevin Owens can say they are WrestleMania main eventers too.
In fact, Kevin Owens can say he’s a two-time WrestleMania main eventer because he went on last on WrestleMania Saturday in 2022 and 2023.
The WrestleMania 38 Saturday main event saw Kevin Owens interview “Stone Cold” Steve Austin on the KO Show. That discussion led to a match taking place right there as Austin competed in his first WWE match in 19 years! They had a great showing with Austin getting the win while Owens got to wrestle one of his idols in a main event.
This year’s WrestleMania 39 Saturday was headlined by The Usos defending the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles against Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn, who were finally reunited. They had an incredible match that saw Owens & Zayn win the Tag Team Titles to put an end to the record-breaking Tag Team Title reign of The Usos.
During an interview with Spencer Love of Love Wrestling, Kevin Owens was asked to pick between the last two WrestleMania matches and name which one he liked more.
“I hate doing this because it sounds like I’m trying to get out of easily, but there’s really no words to describe either experience. The best way I can describe it is Iook back on both of these nights, and I kind of can’t believe they happened, that I found myself in that situation, in that spot, getting to do that, and the circumstances on both years were just so incredible.
“I guess if one takes the absolute cake and just edges out the other one by very little, I think it’s still more unbelievable to me that I wrestled Stone Cold Steve Austin 19 years after his last match in the main event of WrestleMania. That’s just kind of a ‘pinch yourself to make sure it’s real’ kind of moment, and I’ve done that a lot over the last year and a half or so since it happened.”
“But both those moments, they’re things I’ll look back on when I’m done and think I was very, very lucky to get to experience those things.”
