Kevin Owens Talks About Facing Undertaker At WrestleMania 32 And NJPW Stars Jumping Ship To WWE

TJR Wrestling

Over the weekend, Kevin Owens talked to Title Match Wrestling about a few interesting topics, so let’s get right into it starting with his comments on the wave of NJPW mega-talent likely invading WWE.

“If the rumors are true, Nakamura is probably the one I’m most excited about. I wrestled him once before I got to WWE, and it was an awesome experience. I think he’d bring something different to the WWE.”

In typical Kevin Owens kayfabe fashion, he also mentioned that he is a better wrestler that all of the rumored talent signing with WWE.

I have admittedly only seen a few NJPW events (I could probably count them on both hands), but what I have witnessed is enough to excite me a great deal. Bullet Club was prominently featured on every show, and putting it bluntly, they are a badass group of dudes.

AJ Styles is also one of my favorite wrestlers of all time, so while I am more tantalized by the prospect of Owens facing him, I will also take his word for it that he can have some more classic matches with Shinsuke Nakamura.

Switching gears, Owens also addressed some of the rumors of him potentially facing off against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32, and it’s something he would seemingly find an honor.

“Wrestlemania is synonymous with the Undertaker, regardless of what’s happened with the streak, I still think it’s Undertaker’s show. I’d like to throw my name in the hat and see if he’s still the phenom that he claims to be.”

Let me put it this way: if this match does come to be, it will easily be the segment I look forward to most at this year’s WrestleMania. Both of these wrestlers aren’t just built like tanks in physical stature, but in terms of character, are depicted as athletes they can take a beating and resiliently keep getting back up for more punishment.

False finishes and numerous kick-outs are sometimes frustrating in this age, but in this case, such a spectacle would be justified. I don’t care if Owens survives 3 Tombstones or if Undertaker eats multiple Popup Powerbombs and every other independent finishing maneuver in his repertoire; going all out for this match is necessary and would make for riveting television.

If Owens were victorious, it’s true that the win would mean slightly less than Brock Lesnar initially breaking the streak, but being in the match alone is a significant milestone achievement for anyone’s career. Unfortunately, sometimes we ultimately forget that detail. Let’s just savor the few Undertaker performances that remain and anticipate them like the humongous events they are.
