Kevin Owens Clashed With Old WWE Management Over Attitude To Fans
Kevin Owens battled WWE’s previous management over its treatment of fans.
Back in April 2024, Kevin Owens reignited his feud with The Bloodline and teamed with Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes to tackle the dominant faction.
However, by October, Owens had turned heel after a shocking attack on Cody Rhodes following Bad Blood. The parking lot assault wasn’t broadcast on television but WWE made quick use of fan footage to advance the story. Over the following weeks, Owens also clashed with Orton, taking him out with a Package Piledriver.
Owens eventually found himself on a collision course with Sami Zayn, and he again utilised social media to advance the story ahead of their bout at Elimination Chamber.
Kevin Owens Argued With WWE Bosses
During a new interview with Adrian Hernandez of Unlikely, Owens was asked about WWE’s use of social media to advance stories. The star revealed there’s been a “big shift” in approach since Triple H took creative control of the company, and that’s involved giving fans more credit for their dedication and attention to detail.
Owens admitted he clashed with the company’s previous regime over its insistence that fans didn’t truly pay attention or remember things.
“It’s definitely been a shift in mindset from people at the top. Our fans are smart and watch our product and pay attention and remember things, and can remember things a lot better than other people that were in charge before thought they would because I guess they didn’t remember half the stuff we did. The fans do because the fans care and pay attention to what we do.
I had arguments with the people in charge before. ‘No, this happened three weeks ago, they’re going to remember.’ They said, ‘No, they won’t.’ ‘Yes, they will. You’re insulting their intelligence by pretending they won’t.’
Obviously, Triple H does not think like that. He knows fans remember and he applies it and uses it. It makes the product way better, in my opinion. When I was a kid watching, when I was 12, 13, 14, even though I was just a kid, I watched it and remembered everything.
When The Sultan showed up, I knew it was [Rikishi]. Why is he The Sultan? Our fans are smart. It’s great to see the product leaning into that now.”
Back in February, Kevin Owens confirmed he’d signed a new WWE contract which will keep him with the company until 2029.
