Kevin Owens “Ashamed” By Not Enjoying WWE Universal Championship Run

Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens has looked back on his time as WWE Universal Champion and admits that he didn’t enjoy the run as much as he should have.

On the August 29th, 2016 episode of Monday Night Raw Kevin Owens became Universal Champion for the first time in his WWE career when Triple H helped him defeat Seth Rollins in a Fatal Four-Way match that also included Roman Reigns and Big Cass.

During his time as champion Owens formed an 0n-screen partnership with Chris Jericho to almost universal acclaim. The partnership ultimately ended when Kevin Owens turned on Jericho during an ill-fated Festival of Friendship. However, a WrestleMania Universal Title bout between the two men was not to be with Owens losing the title to Goldberg a few weeks before WrestleMania 33 in just 22 seconds.

Speaking on the After the Bell podcast, Owens looked back on that time and explained what stopped him from enjoying it as much as he perhaps should have:

“I used always to want more and more and more. What’s next? What’s next? What’s next? There are so many moments over the past eight years that I didn’t properly enjoy because I was always worried about what was the next thing. When I was Universal Champion, I had this incredible run with Chris Jericho and so many great moments, so many fun moments that people still talk about today. I’m ashamed to say that I really did not enjoy that as much as I should have.”
