Kevin Owens Wants To Mark Special Anniversary With John Cena

Kevin Owens & John Cena - Friday Night SmackDown

Kevin Owens is keen to battle John Cena one last time and believes he has the perfect date in mind.

The legendary ‘Doctor Of Thuganomics’ is set for one final full year of in-ring competition after announcing his intention to retire from the squared circle at the end of 2025 at July’s Money In The Bank Premium Live Event.

After an impressive first few months with the company competing in NXT, former WWE Universal Champion Owens made his main roster debut back in May 2015 as a surprise contender in John Cena’s US Championship open challenge.

Having attacked Cena on the 18th May 2015 edition of Raw, Owens would eventually battle Cena in a non-title contest at Elimination Chamber thirteen days later. The Canadian Superstar picked up a shock victory over veteran Cena at the event.

During a recent conversation with the Daily Mail, Owens revealed that he would like to battle Cena again during his retirement tour and believes that a bout on the tenth anniversary of his first match with the 15-time Champion would be the ideal timing:

“I’m going to put it out there now. I’ve noticed that May 31, 2025 – which would be the 10th anniversary of our first match together at Elimination Chamber – is a Saturday night, which lends itself incredibly well to WWE events, and maybe even a PLE.

Who knows? Of course I want to be one of John Cena’s opponents in his last year, but if it could happen that night, that would be pretty incredible, 10 years to the day after the first one. But obviously, I’d be happy to face him at any point”

Kevin Owens Addresses His Own In-Ring Future

With Cena’s legendary in-ring career drawing to a close, it has given other Superstars and opportunity to reflect on their future with Kevin Owens being one star that has offered comment on his future plans.

Despite only turning 40 this past May, Owens recently revealed that he felt he too had just a small number of years remaining as an active competitor.
