Kevin Nash Speaks About Why This NWO Member Didn’t Get Over In The United States
WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash shared insights into why Scott Norton, a major wrestling star in New Japan Pro Wrestling, didn’t experience similar success in WCW during the 1990s.
Scott Norton, known for his two reigns as IWGP Heavyweight Champion, was a formidable presence in Japan with his impressive physique and commanding in-ring style. However, he was never positioned as a top talent in WCW. On Kevin Nash’s podcast, Kliq This, he addressed a fan’s question about Norton’s WCW tenure and why he wasn’t given a bigger spotlight.
He was a top guy in Japan all through that period. I don’t know why it didn’t translate, he was a stud.
Nash reflected, highlighting Norton’s potential to succeed beyond Japan. Nash noted that WCW’s roster at the time was filled with athletic big men, which was a competitive environment in which Norton still managed to stand out. He praised Norton’s wrestling skills, especially during his tag team partnership with Bam Bam Bigelow in NJPW, where they had standout matches against the Steiner Brothers.
My first tour, it was him, Vader, and Tony Halme. If you guys want to look at some classic New Japan matches, Norton and Bam Bam had a series of tag matches with the Steiners that are really some great matches. Norton worked super strong, but Bam Bam was so athletic and, of course, the Steiners are just incredible.
Norton first joined NJPW in 1990 and transitioned to WCW in 1995, with a brief WWE stint in 1994. He later joined the nWo faction alongside Nash. Although Norton didn’t achieve the same fame in WCW, he remains widely respected for his powerful style and presence in NJPW, where he thrived as a main-event talent.
What Did Kevin Nash Say Would Make Him Consider Returning To WWE?
Kevin Nash spoke about the possibility of him returning to WWE and said that the only thing that would make him come back is if Triple H said that the company needed for him for an angle. Nash went on to say that he would only appear in a non-physical on-screen role and that he would not consider getting back into in-ring action.
