Kenny Omega’s Return To AEW Closer Than Many Thought
Kenny Omega’s in-ring return is inching ever closer.
Kenny Omega hasn’t wrestled since being diagnosed with diverticulitis in early December 2023, with his last match coming on December 5th. The former AEW World Champion had hoped to avoid surgery, but he eventually went under the knife in May after making two appearances on Dynamite.
However, it seems Omega’s return to the ring is a matter of when rather than if.
During a recent interview largely in character, Kenny Omega hinted at a comeback, while he’s set to appear at NJPW Power Struggle at the EDION Arena Osaka as a special guest on November 4th.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer pointed to Omega’s language in that interview, noting that he wasn’t discussing a comeback in hypothetical terms. Instead, something that will happen given time. Meltzer suggested this “should be relatively soon.”
Omega is talking about his comeback as if it’s a thing, rather than a possibility, so it should be relatively soon. The idea all along has been to set up a fifth match with Kazuchika Okada…
Back in September, it was noted that Omega was training and preparing to wrestle again, although he remained somewhat limited in what he could do. Kota Ibushi later hinted that Kenny Omega could return before the end before the end of 2024.
