Kenny Omega Teases Unlikely Return Against AEW’s Young Bucks

Kenny Omega promo on AEW Dynamite

Kenny Omega could have an unexpected new ally in his quest for revenge against The Young Bucks.

Kenny Omega hasn’t been seen on AEW TV since he was the victim of a brutal assault by Jack Perry, Kazuchika Okada, and The Young Bucks back in May. The attack by the new version of The Elite saw Omega being taken out of the arena on a stretcher, only for the group to catch up with him and throw him on the ground before he could be loaded into an ambulance.

In the months since, Kenny Omega has undergone surgery for diverticulitis and is on the road to recovery. Recently, the star was over in Japan training with his longtime friend and tag team partner Kota Ibushi. While there, he made a surprise visit to New Japan Pro Wrestling for a reunion with his old foe, Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Now, NJPW has released the contents of a conversation between the pair, who last met in the ring back in 2019 when Tanahashi defeated Omega for the IWGP Heavyweight Title at Wrestle Kingdom 13.

During the meeting, Omega expressed his hope that he will be able to get in the ring at Wrestle Dynasty, the joint NJPW and AEW show which takes place in the Tokyo Dome on January 5th.

“If they cleared me tomorrow, I would be back in the ring. There’s a lot I don’t know right now, but I’d absolutely love to be on a stage like Wrestle Dynasty.”

Will Kenny Omega Join Forces With NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi?

When asked about the possiblity of teaming up with New Japan’s President to get revenge on The Young Bucks, Omega said his first priority is being able to return to the ring. If he is able to, though, Matthew and Nicholas Jackson are prime targets for the Best Bout Machine, and he would be more than happy to have Tanahashi as his partner.

“First priority is making my return, but if I can come back, I do want to face the Bucks. I want revenge, but more importantly, I want to do it the right way. The first time Tanahashi and I wrestled, it was for the belt, and then in 2019 it was a lot on the line for the both of us. Now, with the two of us aligned, next time we wrestle, I’d want to do it together.

“I’ve been a bad guy for a lot of my time, especially in AEW. I cheated to win the AEW title. I don’t want that to be the memory of myself that stays with young fans. If Tanahashi and I meet in that ring again, I’d want to do it as his partner.”

In response, The Ace said he was sure Omega will be able to make a comeback, and joked that he would be trying to get in “Kenny shape” while the star made his recovery.

“I’m sure that Kenny will be doing all he can to get into ring shape, and I’ll be working as hard as I can to get into Kenny shape.”
