Kenny Omega Makes Surprising Admission Ahead Of In-Ring Return
Kenny Omega is feeling uncertain ahead of his long-rumoured in-ring return.
On November 4th, Kenny Omega gave the clearest indication yet that he’ll return to the ring in 2025. During an appearance at NJPW Power Struggle, Omega said he’d like to tackle one of the company’s young stars, potentially at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th, 2025.
The comments were welcome news for fans who feared Omega would never wrestle again after being diagnosed with diverticulitis in late 2023.
But despite all this positivity, Omega was attacked backstage after addressing the crowd by Gabe Kidd, hinting at a match between the pair.
Kenny Omega Admits He Isn’t The Same
During a backstage segment, Omega explained that he wanted to make his return something special, and when he wrestles again, he wants to wrestle in NJPW. However, he also offered a word of caution, admitting he’s not who he used to be, and he’s not sure what kind of performer he’ll be when he does lace up his boots.
“Yeah. So I went out there not knowing what I was gonna say. Said what I said and I meant what I said. It’s been tough dealing with all of this, the injury, the sickness. But, I feel about ready to come back. For the fans here in Japan, for the fans worldwide, I want to make it something special. I want to come back to the place that made me me, the reason why a lot of people even know who I am is because of [NJPW].
If I do come back, I’d love to come back for New Japan. I’m not who I used to be. I’m not sure what kind of person will be making a comeback but I’m going to give him my best shot. If guys like Tanahashi can go as long as he can go, I need to have that same spirit and fight and fight and fight and fight until I can’t fight anymore.
Being here fuels me, being here makes me feel like a different person, makes me feel like I can be the best version of me that I can be. If you guys are willing to have me, I’d love to come back to New Japan.
Until next time, whenever that may be, I bid you all ado, muah, goodnight, bang.”
Kenny Omega hasn’t wrestled since beating Ethan Page in early December 2023 on Collision. The setback came after the former AEW World Champion missed the final month of 2021 and much of 2022 due to a series of injuries that left him in a growing amount of pain during his World Title run.
