Kenny Omega Confronts Former Rival During Shock AEW Return
Kenny Omega is back.
At Worlds End, AEW crowned a new Continental Champion with the semi-finals and finals of the tournament taking place in Orlando, Florida.
In the opening match of the night, a bloody Will Ospreay defeated Kyle Fletcher, before Kazuchika Okada saw off Ricochet. This set up a final between Ospreay and Okada, and it was the Japanese star who won following a Rainmaker.
As Okada celebrated, Christopher Daniels appeared on the stage and said he’d usually present him with the title, but he’s no longer an Executive Vice President. However, “he is.” This brought out Kenny Omega to a huge ovation and he collected the title belt before heading to the ring.
Omega handed the gold to Okada who held it above his head but refused to take his eyes off his long-time rival. After the lengthy staredown, that played out in front of a large banner for All In: Texas, Omega eventually left.
The pair have a rivalry stretching back several years to their time in NJPW, while Okada, along with The Elite took Omega out back in May.
What Next For Kenny Omega?
While an air of mystery surrounds his AEW, Kenny Omega will return to the ring at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th.
At NJPW Power Struggle in November, Omega declared his intention to get back in the ring. But it was what happened backstage that properly set his comeback in motion. Once behind the curtain, Omega was attacked by Gabe Kidd, and after trading barbs in interviews, a match between the pair was set.
Omega hasn’t wrestled since December 2023 shortly before he was diagnosed with diverticulitis.
