Kenny Omega Resumes Training For AEW Return
Kenny Omega has begun the long road back to the ring.
Kenny Omega hasn’t wrestled since being diagnosed with diverticulitis in early December 2023, with his last match coming on December 5th. The former AEW World Champion had hoped to avoid surgery, but he eventually went under the knife in May after making two appearances on Dynamite.
Since then, details about Omega’s condition have been few and far between, but it seems he is working towards a comeback.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Omega is back training at a “moderate intensity,” although he’s unable to take bumps.
Regarding Kenny Omega, he is still has some pain but he is training with moderate intensity. I don’t expect him back any time soon for wrestling as he’s still got weakness in the abdominal area from the surgery and can’t start taking bumps yet. There is no estimate on a return. As noted, Kota Ibushi, who has also had his physical issues, is looking at returning when Omega returns.
The report backs up comments from Michael Nakazawa who noted that Kenny Omega was training, but there is no timeline for a return to the ring.
AEW Had Huge Plans For Kenny Omega At All In
Due to his health issues, the former AEW World Champion will miss All In at Wembley Stadium on August 25th. But had he been fit, Omega would have wrestled in one of the biggest matches on the card.
According to a recent report, AEW wanted Kenny Omega to challenge Kazuchika Okada for the Continental Title in London. Omega and Okada have long been tipped to wrestle in AEW after a legendary series of matches in Japan before the company launched in 2019.
