Kenny Omega Dubs Star “One Of AEW Greatest Performers”
Kenny Omega is delighted one AEW star found success.
He might not have been a regular on AEW television for the best part of a year, but Kenny Omega has been keeping a close eye on the All Elite landscape.
In Omega’s absence, Swerve Strickland has risen to the top of the company, enjoying a strong World Title run, while his 2024 has been littered with impressive in-ring outings.
During an interview with Sean Ross Sapp for Fightful, Omega talked up Strickland, surmising that he loves to see good things happen to good people.
“I feel like it’s moments like that where I can really sit back and smile,” Kenny Omega said. ” It’s not all the time when the good guys win. When the good guys can get ahead in life. And especially for me, there are people that I’ve rooted for in the past that just maybe weren’t able to ever get their fair shake, or they weren’t able to find that break.
And I remember — he may not even remember, but I remember that in moments when Swerve would be involved in something that maybe placed him in more of an enhancement role. He would do such an incredible job with it to not only elevate his opponent, but the quality of the match, and himself in the process.
I would always feel like, not that it was my job, I just felt like as a wrestler, as someone who still enjoys watching good wrestling or wrestling that entertains me, I felt like I got to reach out to this guy. I have to let him know that he’s doing an incredible job.
And I just hope he doesn’t get discouraged, because eventually someone’s going to see how good and how giving, and how cognizant he is of everything around him, as regards to current-day wrestling.
And lo and behold, months and months and months and months and months and months later, whatever it was, he found the secret, and he just used that as a springboard to launch himself into the stratosphere, and he went from wherever he was at to now being undeniably one of our greatest performers in AEW.”
Swerve Strickland has sparked concern on social media after sharing an x-ray of a shoulder injury. The former World Champion is scheduled to face Bobby Lashley at Full Gear on November 23rd.
There’s no word on whether the injury will impact the event.
Kenny Omega Closing On In-Ring Comeback
During the same interview, Kenny Omega confirmed his plans for a return to the ring. Following an appearance at NJPW Power Struggle, Omega was attacked backstage by Gabe Kidd, seemingly setting up a match between the pair at Wrestle Dynasty in January.
However, no match has been announced. While discussing his comeback, Omega said no match has been confirmed for Wrestle Dynasty because he;’s wary of his physical condition changing meaning he can’t compete.
The former World Champion hasn’t wrestled since defeating Ethan Page on the December 9th episode of Collision.
