Kenny Omega To Make AEW Return Before End Of 2024
Kenny Omega is coming.
At Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th in the Tokyo Dome, Kenny Omega will wrestle his first match in more than a year.
The cross-promotional event featuring talent from NJPW, AEW, ROH, CMLL, and Stardom will take place just 24 hours after Wrestle Kingdom 19.
Omega was forced to take a hiatus in December 2023 after being diagnosed with diverticulitis. During that time he’s largely stayed away from the industry, but he appeared at NJPW Power Struggle in November declaring his intention to wrestle again. Once backstage, Omega got into a scuffle with Gabe Kidd which laid the foundation for the match between the pair at Wrestle Dynasty.
Some fans have been surprised that Omega is making his return in Japan without an appearance in AEW, but it seems that’s about to change.
Kenny Omega Closing On AEW Return
During AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash, a vignette aired highlighting Kenny Omega’s biggest moments sparking excitement amongst the company’s fanbase. The theory was that AEW wouldn’t mention him if there wasn’t at least a possibility he would be back soon.
Interestingly, it seems there is some truth to that line of thinking.
As reported by Fightful Select, there was some “internal discussion” about Omega appearing at Full Gear, although there was never a firm plan. However, those within the company and close to Omega expect him to appear on AEW television before Worlds End on December 28th.
The former World Champion will then return to Japan for his match with Kidd.
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that Adam Copeland will be back with AEW “imminently.” The veteran has been out of action since breaking his leg at Double or Nothing back in May.
