Kenny Omega Knows AEW Doesn’t Need Him
Kenny Omega has explained why his in-ring comeback looks to be taking place in NJPW rather than AEW as Tony Khan’s company doesn’t need him right now.
After a year out of the ring due to serious illness, Kenny Omega said he’d love to face one of NJPW’s young stars at Wrestle Dynasty in January, a cross-promotional event set to feature talent from NJPW, AEW, Stardom, CMLL, and ROH.
Shortly after making his way backstage, Omega got into a scuffle with Gabe Kidd, and the pair have been locked in a war of words in the media ever since. This included Kenny Omega declaring that Kidd is “unfit to be a professional,” comparing him to CM Punk.
While nothing has been made official as of yet, it looks like Kenny Omega’s return to the ring will take place at the Tokyo Dome whether that is at Wrestle Dynasty or the event where he made his name, Wrestle Kingdom, which occurs one night before.
Kenny Omega Wants To Repay NJPW
Speaking largely in character to Fightful, Kenny Omega explained why he feels it is right that he returns to NJPW at the Tokyo Dome:
I owe New Japan a gigantic thank you (for giving him his big career break) and I do feel there’s a debt I have to repay in some way, shape, form or fashion. If by performing at the Tokyo Dome, making my comeback at the Tokyo Dome, it’s a way to help repay that and help do something for their business, then I’m more than happy to do that.
Many fans have wondered why Tony Khan would allow Kenny Omega’s big return after a year out to take place anywhere else than AEW but Omega thinks his home promotion doesn’t need him right now:
When there’s an opportunity again and a chance, sure. I’d love to be back if you guys can have me, but right now, I think AEW has a good thing going and I don’t think they need me. So, I will make my return for New Japan instead…for now.
Full Gear and Worlds End are still set to take place before Omega’s return to NJPW in early January so there is still the possibility that Kenny Omega will appear in AEW before then. Perhaps as the man to try and take down his old rival AEW World Champion Jon Moxley who is currently taking over the company with his Death Riders in brutal fashion.
