Kenny Omega’s Health Forces Delay To Highly-Anticipated AEW Match

Kenny Omega

Plans have changed for Kenny Omega.

On the October 1 edition of Dynamite, Andrade made history when he re-signed with AEW. By becoming All Elite for a second time, he became the first person to jump from WWE to AEW twice.

On the show, he confronted Kenny Omega, who had just teamed with Brodido to beat Josh Alexander and the Young Bucks.

The match was Omega’s first after being driven through a table with a Brainbuster by Kyle Fletcher on September 3, as he continues to battle The Don Callis Family. Although no announcement has been made, Omega is now expected to face Andrade at WrestleDream.

Kenny Omega Match Delayed

Following Dynamite, fans were quick to point out that it seemed odd that Omega wasn’t heading for a match with Kyle Fletcher, who had taken him out of action in September. However, it seems the decision to keep Omega away from Fletcher was very deliberate.

According to a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW has decided to delay the match because Omega still isn’t at 100%.

“There is a reason that right now they aren’t going to do the match, as basically in a normal situation that would have been the match booked but Omega’s physical situation is not 100 percent and the feeling was it was better right now not to put Omega in the situation of the kind of a match he’d be expected to do with Fletcher.”

In late August, it was reported that Kenny Omega was dealing with “very serious pain,” but the man himself was quick to assure fans he was fine. More recently, Omega has been absent from television, but denied that he took some time off.

Omega didn’t wrestle at all in 2024 after being diagnosed with diverticulitis in December 2023. At the time, the illness was a genuine threat to his life, and later, there were fears he’d never wrestle again despite undergoing surgery.
