Kenny Omega To Be Confronted By NJPW Star On Dynamite
With AEW reaffirming its working relationship with NJPW, Kenny Omega will soon find himself facing a familiar face.
Kenny Omega started off 2023 not in AEW, but in New Japan, as he challenged Will Ospreay for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 17. And after a hard-fought war that went almost 35 minutes, Omega beat Ospreay in a match that was more or less universally-acclaimed.
And with AEW announcing the second Forbidden Door crosspromotional show with New Japan, it was expected that fans would see Omega vs. Ospreay part II.
Unfortunately, that match-up may or may not happen as Ospreay injured his right shoulder in the second round of the 2023 New Japan Cup.
But even though Ospreay isn’t likely to confront Omega anytime soon, one of his United Empire stablemates will: Jeff Cobb.
Although Cobb didn’t get that far in the New Japan Cup either, that didn’t stop him from challenging Omega during a post-match segment on the final night of the tournament.
“I’ve tried countless times, countless times, for you to accept the challenge from me. I’ve done everything: I’ve mocked you, I copied you, I mimicked you, nothing came about it. The one thing that did come about it, was a lot of backlash, Kenny.”
After mentioning how Twitter got mad at him for teasing Kenny Omega and referencing him, Cobb went right back to the point and made his next plans very clear:
“Kenny, you have been dodging me and dodging me and dodging me and f**king dodging me for months. Twitter is f**king fake. Kenny Omega, Jeff Cobb, that’s real. Now Kenny, you can either accept my challenge, which you haven’t done, in multiple, multiple, multiple times.
I am telling you firsthand, I’m coming to St. Louis, and I’m gonna knock on your door, I’m gonna find the EVPs’ dressing room, knock on it, and see if you let me in.
Knock, knock, knock, Kenny, Let me in…please. Let me in.”
The last time Cobb and Omega wrestled each other was on New Year’s Dash on January 5th when Omega teamed with former rival Kazuchika Okada and defeated Cobb and Aaron Henare.
