Kenny Omega Cautious After Life-Changing Illness
Kenny Omega has explained how he has a different outlook following the serious illness that put his life at risk.
Following his win over Ethan Page in December 2023, Kenny Omega was diagnosed with diverticulitis, which put him on the shelf and left his in-ring future in serious doubt.
Kenny Omega may have been just days from death as a result of the condition that required surgery to remove two feet of his intestinal tract. However, Omega fought back and faced off in an instant classic with Gabe Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5.
Since his return to AEW, Kenny Omega has captured the AEW International Championship and seems to be on a collision course with his old rival Kazuchika Okada at All In Texas.
Kenny Omega Cautious After Serious Illness
However, it’s a very different Omega fans are seeing in the ring since his comeback, and now he’s explained why. Speaking with Adi Shankar, Kenny Omega discussed his relationship with his agent, Barry Bloom and admitted he’s a lot more cautious with his approach in and out of the ring:
He’s really like a family member to me, absolutely. It wasn’t like an obligation because he wanted my money, it was not that at all. It wasn’t, ‘Show me the money.’ It was like, ‘Show me your doctor’s report and tell me you’re healthy or if not, no one’s getting their hands on you.’ That kind of thing. I’d be like, ‘No, I think I can do it.’ He’s like, ‘No, no, you have to know you can do it. I don’t care about the money. You need to be healthy.’
And this is coming from someone now who like is understanding of his own mortality now. I’m being way more cautious, and as cautious as I am Barry is still more cautious than I am. Whether it costs me or him money or not, that’s not the primary concern. At all.
