Karrion Kross Confirms Sami Zayn Match Was Last-Minute WWE Decision
The rivalry between Karrion Kross and Sami Zayn was as personal as it gets.
It wasn’t just about wins and losses. It was about mind games, character, and redemption. Karrion Kross had made it his mission to expose what he believed was hidden darkness in Zayn. He poked at Zayn’s involvement with The Bloodline, questioned his integrity, and challenged his pursuit of the WWE Championship. Zayn, in return, stood his ground, pushing back on Kross’s narrative while firing his own verbal shots.
The tension reached its peak at WWE Night of Champions, where Zayn stood tall and defeated Kross in a decisive match that seemingly ended their chapter for now.
Karrion Kross vs Sami Zayn Match Wasn’t in the Night of Champions Match Cards
But in a surprising twist, Karrion Kross recently revealed that the match wasn’t even part of the plan until the last minute. Speaking in an interview with Foundation Radio, the former NXT Champion opened up about how the bout came to be and gave all the credit to the fans.
“People, fans all over the world are the reason why I was on Night of Champions,” Kross said. “This was something I was told about last minute. This is not something that was in the works. I want people to know that they made that happen. They gave me the time that I really, really have wanted for years now to be able to go out there, tell a story on television, and then blow the match off in a PLE.” [15:58 – 16:18]

His comments make it clear that while the match was rushed behind the scenes, the opportunity meant everything to him. After spending time in the background, Kross was finally given a spotlight moment on a Premium Live Event, thanks in large part to fan support.
Though he came up short against Zayn, Karrion Kross’s performance at Night of Champions reminded fans and WWE higher-ups that he can deliver when given the platform.
