Jonathan Gresham Announces Hiatus After Medical Emergency
Jonathan Gresham is stepping back.
Former ROH, AEW, and TNA star Jonathan Gresham has announced he’s taking a break from the ring after suffering two strokes while at home.
In a post on social media, Gresham recalled the scary incident and revealed that doctors are still unsure what caused it. He added that his wife, NXT star Jordynne Grace, saw him being taken into an ambulance on their Ring doorbell and quickly flew home to meet him at the hospital.
Two days ago, I woke up and couldn’t walk or move the left side of my body. I couldn’t see and could barely talk. It took me 30 minutes to dial 911, but I finally did. I woke up in the hospital, and I couldn’t remember what had happened. They told me they had done an MRI, and I had two strokes.
I’ve had a lot of tests run but everything has come back clean. They’re not sure what happened, and the only thing they said was it could have been a possible complication from a bad case of COVID I had a couple of weeks ago. They said we may never know the exact reason.
Needless to say, I will be taking the next 2-4 weeks off from wrestling to recover and get cleared fully by my neurologist.
My wife saw me get carted off from the house on our Ring doorbell camera and somehow flew from Orlando to Atlanta in time that she was there when I woke up. I wasn’t fully convinced I had a stroke until she showed me this photo of how my face looked. I never thought this would be something for me to worry about at 37 years old.
I will be back soon
Jonathan Gresham Remains Top Player On Independent Circuit
After competing as an amateur wrestler through his teenage years, Gresham made the jump to pro wrestling when he was just 16 years old. The star has since gone on to wrestle for many of the biggest independent promotions in North America and beyond, but he’s best known for his work in Ring of Honor and later AEW.
Gresham appearred with ROH as far back as 2011, but didn’t sign an official contract until 2017. He went on to win every major honor the company has to offer and later appeared in AEW after it was aquired by Tony Khan.
However, Jonathan Gresham left ROH/AEW in mid-2022 after an explosive row with Khan. The former World Champion signed for TNA that December, but became a free agent once more in January 2025.
He was most recently in action on August 2 where he lost out to Pete Dunne at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XIV.
Everyone at TJR Wrestling would like to wish Jonathan Gresham a speedy recovery.
