Why Jon Moxley Is Motivated To Win AEW Continental Classic
Jon Moxley plans on winning AEW’s Continental Classic tournament.
It could be argued that Jon Moxley is the greatest AEW wrestler of all time. The former WWE Champion let his contract run out as Dean Ambrose and became All Elite in May 2019, which was just a few months after the company launched.
During his AEW career so far, Moxley is the only 4-time World Champion in company history (nobody else has three reigns), and he has held the World Title for a combined 620 days, which is over 200 more days than anybody else.
After losing the AEW World Title to “Hangman” Adam Page at All In this past summer, Moxley has had a bloody feud with Darby Allin, and he’s also advanced to the semifinals of the Continental Classic tournament at Worlds End on December 27th.
Joining Moxley in the Continental Classic semifinals are three members of the Don Callis Family, including Mox’s semifinal opponent, Kyle Fletcher, and the other semifinal matchup is Kazuchika Okada vs. Konosuke Takeshita.
While speaking in a video on AEW’s social media channel, Moxley made it clear he wants to win the Continental Classic tournament.
“It’s funny when Orange Cassidy said something like, ‘I will not turn in what you wanna turn me into.’ I hate to break it to you, bud, but you already have. It’s a beautiful thing; you can think whatever you want. It doesn’t do anybody any good for me to be friends with anyone. It’s been a long year, a long year, a great year, hell of a year, longer than anybody knows, with challenges, ups, downs, [and] everything in between. I’m so proud of so many people.
There is still so much work to do, and it starts on December 27. It starts with me. It’s a miracle. A couple [of] small miracles for me to be in the semi-finals, but I’m not gonna lie, I want the Continental Classic. I want it bad[ly]. Like a wolf getting the taste of a little bit of blood on his tongue, I wanna chase that thing and kill it. I want to win the Continental Classic with every instinct, every fiber, and everything in my body. I want it.”
Jon Moxley Wonders If Kyle Fletcher Can Get It Done
The prize of the Continental Classic tournament is the AEW Continental Championship, and the incumbent champion (Kazuchika Okada) at the beginning of each tournament is automatically entered and defends the title throughout the tournament.
What that means is if Moxley can defeat Fletcher in one semifinal and the winner of the Okada/Takeshita match in the finals, then he’ll be the new Continental Champion.
As he continued speaking about the Continental Classic tournament, Jon Moxley wondered if the former TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher can stop him.
“These Don Callis guys, all the fancy suits and the cars, living the Don Callis lifestyle. Well, they know that’s not gonna do them any good at this point. Kyle Fletcher, he doesn’t need all of those things.
He’s gonna bring a lot to the table in Chicago, certainly more than me. Situations like these, there is no room for error, no mistakes, pressure mounts, everything is on the line, and I live for moments like this. Not about how often you can get it done; I mean, it’s great, but at the Continental Classic, December 27, can you get it done when it counts? When it really, really counts!”
“No room for error. No mistakes. Pressure mounts. Everything is on the line.”
