Jon Moxley has created his own unique legacy.

At NJPW Windy City Riot, Jon Moxley became the first man to hold World Championship gold in WWE, AEW, and NJPW. Furthermore, Moxley has achieved those heights on his own terms, setting himself apart from several of his peers.

In a new interview with Justin Barrasso for Sports Illustrated, Moxley discussed taking inspiration from books, reciting a passage from Ozan Varol’s Awaken Your Genius, which discusses Thelonious Monk’s thoughts on genius. The theory goes that “genius is the one most like himself,” something Moxley prides himself on.

The IWGP World Heavyweight Champion said he’s proud that he stands as an individual, before pondering his place in wrestling history.

“When it’s all said and done, and I’ve been eaten by a cougar or something and people look back on everything, I like the idea that you won’t know where to classify me in history,” said Moxley. “You don’t know where to put me on your lists or your rankings or whatever the f—.

“You have no idea where to classify me, but you can’t ignore me, so you’re going to have to give me my own space. I like that.”

Jon Moxley To Defend IWGP World Heavyweight Title At Dominion

It’s been announced that Jon Moxley will put his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship on the line at NJPW Dominion on June 9th in Osaka.

Since winning the gold, Moxley has been busy defending the title against all comers, seeing off Ren Narita and Shot ‘Shooter’ Umino in recent weeks. Following his win over Umino, the pair were jumped by EVIL and Narita, leading Moxley to proclaim he would rid NJPW of the House of Torture.

At Dominion, Moxley could move closer than ever to getting his wish, when he takes on EVIL.
