Jon Moxley Praises WWE Star Following Struggle To The Top
Jon Moxley has a lot of love for a 20-year overnight sensation.
While some wrestlers manage to sprint onto the international stage right at the start of their careers, for others the journey to the top looks more like a marathon.
One such star is LA Knight.
Knight began his career back in 2003, but it wouldn’t be until 2022 that he was really able to show what he could do on a huge stage. In between he made a brief appearnace in WWE alongside Jon Moxley in 2006, starred on the independent scene, joined WWE and left again, found success in the NWA and TNA before eventually rejoining WWE.
But even then, despite performing well in NXT, Vince McMahon didn’t want him to wrestle on the main roster, turning him into Max Dupri and manager of Maximum Male Models.
However, when finally given his chace to shine in the ring, Knight became one of the most popular stars on the roster, and is currently riding high as United States Champion.
Jon Moxley Remains A Big Fan Of LA Knight
In a new interview with Shakiel Mahjouri for CBS Sports, Jon Moxley covered a whole host of topics, including his friend and former tag team partner Knight. The AEW star said Knight’s story is a perfect example of why it’s important to persevere even if success is sometimes hard to find.
“The thing I love about it is, it’s the perfect example of an overnight success story that took 20 years. People think, in all walks of life, they have such impatience for stuff and they give up as soon as things turn hard and as soon as there are challenges in front of them, especially in this sport with such ups and downs.
Nobody’s road is consistent and good all the time to the top. They give up so quickly. No matter what anybody told him, he had his vision and intention and stuck with it for years and years and never wavered.
All of a sudden, one day, people think they picked him up out of the blue like they had a WWE casting call one day and they hired him. No, it took 20 years of eating shit to get to that point. That’s a lesson people should learn from,”
During the same conversation, Jon Moxley opened up about his desire to change AEW, and dissatisfaction with how the company was progressing. The World Champion hit out at those involved in the “previous iteration” of the promotion for not taking responsibility.
Moxley will be back in action at Full Gear when he puts the AEW World Championship on the line against Orange Cassidy.
