Jon Moxley’s Death Riders Have Support Of AEW Legend

Jon Moxley cuts a promo on AEW Dynamite

A legendary AEW figure believes that Jon Moxley and The Death Riders group is a good thing for the company.

Jon Moxley has held the AEW World Title for the past six months, even though he refuses to display it publicly. While most champions proudly want to show off their titles, Moxley’s is kept in a briefcase held by his ally Marina Shafir.

The Death Riders group is led by Moxley while also including Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Pac, and Marina Shafir. The trio of Castagnoli, Pac & Yuta hold the Trios Tag Team Titles, but Pac suffered a foot injury during a match with Swerve Strickland on Dynamite, so it’s not known how long he’ll be out.

Going into Jon Moxley’s AEW World Title defense against Swerve Strickland, many fans were clamoring for Swerve to become a two-time World Champion. Instead, Moxley retained the title due to a surprising assist from the returning Young Bucks.

Jim Ross is a WWE Hall of Famer who is considered one of the best announcers in pro wrestling history. Ross has also been with AEW since the company launched in 2019, so even though he isn’t regularly on commentary now, he has called many Moxley matches.

During a recent episode of his Grilling JR podcast, Ross said he supported The Death Riders group with Moxley as the leader.

“It seems like Moxley is the maestro of this orchestra, and if that’s the case, then so be it. It’s going to work out pretty well.”

“The Death Riders is a good gimmick. It’s a good idea. I like the Death Riders scenario. I like it a lot, so we’ll see how it pans out at the end of the day.”

Jim Ross Wanted Jon Moxley To Lose At AEW Dynasty

As he spoke about the AEW Dynasty PPV, Jim Ross admitted that he wanted to see Swerve Strickland end Jon Moxley’s AEW World Title reign.

“I just thought that Moxley might lose the title and it didn’t happen. I’m not complaining about that, but it seemed like it was a false narrative [in my mind].”

“I thought Swerve would get the title and he’s been a good champion.”

The next AEW PPV is Double or Nothing on May 25th followed by All In Texas on July 12th, which is when the winner of the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament will get a shot at the AEW World Title held by Moxley, or whoever is the AEW World Champion at the time.
