John Cena’s WWE Title Match Made For Backlash
John Cena stole the WWE Title at WrestleMania 41 and now the first title defence of his 17th reign as champion has been made official.
John Cena needed Travis Scott’s help to defeat Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 to become WWE Champion. On Raw in Las Vegas, Cena addressed the crowd as he continued to bury them, especially the ones who chose to cheer him during his battle with Rhodes.
Cena noted that when he came back to WWE for his retirement year, he had 36 dates to complete, and now that number was down to 27. Cena promised that when that number hit zero, the pro wrestling timeline would come to a halt as he’d walk away from the business with the WWE Championship.
The only thing that finally shut Cena up was something he’s suffered many times during his career, an RKO outta nowhere.
Randy Orton To Challenge John Cena At Backlash
On SmackDown in Fort Worth, Cena and Orton came face-to-face once again as Randy Orton accused Cena of letting down the children who looked up to him and vowed not to let Cena ruin wrestling as he has promised to do. Orton was ready for a title match right there and then, but instead John Cena told the Viper that he’d meet him in St. Louis at Backlash.
Cena nailed Orton with a cheap shot before taking the fight to his old rival. The WWE Champion tried to use his title belt to knock out Orton, but he struck with an RKO once again.
