John Cena’s Scrapped WrestleMania Match Against 4-Time WWE Champion Revealed

John Cena press

John Cena’s retirement tour will come to an end sometime during mid-December 2025.

During the Farewell Tour, The Franchise Player is focusing on closing chapters.

He has already had his run with Randy Orton and Ron Killins (fka R-Truth), and he may end his chapter with Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2025.

John Cena was supposed to have a match at WrestleMania 35

The Franchise Player has appeared on every WrestleMania except 37 and 38. However, he did not wrestle at 19, 32, and 35. Interestingly, there were plans for him to wrestle at the 35th edition of the premium live event.

While speaking to Kenny McIntosh of Inside The Ropes, former WWE Superstar Elias revealed that the global juggernaut had plans of Cena wrestling him at WrestleMania 35, but the match never reached the card.

With Seth, it was the right environment, the right match. It was the Intercontinental Championship. There was a real story there, and sure enough, man. I had that match, and it got people talking, and this was the plan. I can remember Vince McMahon came up to me after that and he said, ‘It didn’t happen at this last WrestleMania, but I want you and John at the next WrestleMania.’ And I said, ‘Yep. Okay, great. There we go.’ I was very excited about that.

The Champ’s final WrestleMania was the 2025 version, where he dethroned Cody Rhodes as the Undisputed WWE Champion.
