John Cena’s Real Feelings About Gunther: “He’s Not Going To Say The Same”
John Cena called time on his glorious WWE career this past weekend after he lost in his final match to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
The Ring General defeated LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, Carmelo Hayes, and Je’Von Evans to win the ‘Last Time is Now’ tournament and earn the right to face Cena in his final match.
He put a ruthless performance against the 17-time WWE World Champion and made him tap out, just like he promised. Following their match, John Cena revealed his real feelings about his final opponent in a chat with Cody Rhodes.
John Cena has massive respect for Gunther
Cena appeared on Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Want To Talk About? in what was his first appearance since retiring and spoke to the Undisputed WWE Champion about The Ring General.
Cena expressed that he cannot state how much respect he has for Gunther, and is also aware and accepting of the fact that the former World Heavyweight Champion would not say the same thing about him.
“I see things from a different plane. He sees from this plane, and I love that. He is relentless in the mastery of a piece of canvas. We can talk about a myriad of things. You’ll have a lane of conversation with him, but it’ll be enthusiastic. ‘You like a flat white. He’s a coffee nerd.’ Wrestling, with purpose, he has an idea of what it should be and an idea of what offends him. I cannot tell you how much respect I have for him, and I know he’s not going to say the same thing about me, and he shouldn’t. I’m okay with that. It is such an honor to be able to step in there with someone whose moniker is ‘The Ring General.’ In my last one, if I could add a star to his uniform, someone who believes the mat is sacred, I believe the same thing. We just see it through different lenses,” Cena said. [H/T: Fightful]
Gunther has made it a habit of retiring legendary WWE superstars this year. Prior to his match with John Cena, he had already ended the career of Goldberg this past summer.
