John Cena’s Reaction To WWE Heel Turn Revealed By Triple H

Triple H has revealed how John Cena really reacted when he was told about plans to turn him heel in WWE.

At Elimination Chamber in early 2025, The Rock wanted Cody Rhodes’ soul. However, Rhodes’ soul was not up for grabs, and he firmly told The Final Boss what he thought of him and his offer. John Cena then shocked the world as he sold his own soul and joined up with The Rock and rap star Travis Scott in a beatdown of Rhodes.

This was the first time John Cena had been a heel in WWE in 22 years, and it was made all the more shocking as it came at the start of his final year as a WWE Superstar.

John Cena Had Plenty Of Ideas For Heel Turn

Speaking in a clip from WWE: Unreal, Triple H explained how John Cena really reacted when he was pitched to turn heel in his final year as an active wrestler. Triple H had spoken to WWE president Nick Khan, The Rock, Travis Scott, and Cody Rhodes before he got this reaction from Cena:

I talked to John. John’s the best. He’s like, “Well, before you say it, just know if this is what you believe in, I’m in.” I said, “John, okay, let’s take the bullsh*t hat off. Now, this is not the head of creative talking to you and you, the performer.” I said, “I am asking John Cena, the human being. Paul Levesque is talking to you. Give me your gut.” This impacts John Cena, the real-life human being, and it impacts his movies, and it impacts his PR schedule, and impacts everything.

We’re honest with each other, I said, “Give me your gut. You like it or you don’t.” And he was like, “I like it a lot, actually.” When I hung up the phone with him, within a minute, a minute and a half, I’ve gotten like three different texts from him of thoughts, ideas, and so I’m like “Right, he’s engaged.”
