John Cena’s Original WrestleMania 39 Opponent Revealed
John Cena looks set to be part of WrestleMania 39 with the sixteen-time champion of the world on a collision course with Austin Theory but that was not the original plan according to a new report.
John Cena will return to WWE screens on the March 6th edition of Monday Night Raw in Boston, MA as the icon looks set for a spot on the WrestleMania 39 card. Current United States Champion Austin Theory has offered to give Cena “a warm, warm welcome” on Raw and it looks like the two will square off on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
WrestlingNews.co has reported, however, that Cena was originally pencilled in for the event in a bout against Logan Paul. The report notes that the match between Cena and Paul was still in place in December 2022 but by January the change had been made to have Cena take on Theory while Paul looks set to face Seth Rollins in Los Angeles, CA.
It is noted in the report how highly thought of Austin Theory is within WWE and that company officials believe he is one of the stars that can help carry the company over the next decade.
While Theory and John Cena may well be happy with their lot at WrestleMania 39, it appears not every WWE Superstar is with some said to be unhappy at Triple H’s plans for the event.
