John Cena’s Heartfelt Message On New Year’s Day
The now-retired WWE Icon shared a New Year’s Day post on X/Twitter.
John Cena lost his final ever match to Gunther on December 13th, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event (SNME) via submission. After being locked by The Ring General in an inescapable sleeper hold, The Leader Of The Cenation was seen sheepishly tapping out with a weak smile on his face, thus ending his time as an in-ring competitor in WWE and a career that spanned over two decades.
Although this decision of making Cena lose his final match was polarizing to say the least, WWE CCO Triple H endured most of the backlash and heat from a majority of the fans and critics who did not see it as being the right ending to the career of a person with the mantra “Never give up”.
Cena tried to douse the fire and said he was involved in the decision for him to go out this way, revealing that it’s how he wanted it to be. He has stated that although he will never wrestle again, especially after what he feels was such a poetic exit, he will be involved in WWE as an ambassador, for which he recently signed a five-year contract.
