John Cena’s Massive Effect On WWE’s Business Laid Bare
John Cena has proven to be a difference maker once again in WWE as he continues to sell tickets by the bucket load to Friday Night SmackDown.
Hollywood’s loss proved to be WWE’s gain as the ongoing strikes that have shut down the movie world allowed John Cena to return to the wrestling world on September 1st and the company has reaped the rewards of his continued presence.
Cena has appeared on every SmackDown since then and even made a sojourn to NXT for a huge night in the wrestling world as that show went head-to-head with AEW Dynamite. Cena teamed with LA Knight to defeat Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa at Fastlane and he will have his first – and possibly only – televised singles match at Crown Jewel when he faces Solo Sikoa.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that since John Cena returned to WWE, the company has been drawing five-figure attendances for SmackDown every week:
“Man, I tell you what that frickin’ John Cena since he came back they’re over 10,000 every single week on Friday night. They were always drawing well but when he came back, he is a mover man, he’s a difference maker.”
WWE SmackDown selling out with John Cena
WrestleTix noted that the 20th of October edition of SmackDown in San Antonio, Texas was sold out with over 13,000 tickets distributed.
One week later in Milwaukee, it was noted several times throughout the show that SmackDown was sold out which means the 3rd of November show also will be as it was taped on the same night as the 27th of October show as it will air just one night before Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.
