John Cena’s Historic Rivalry With Huge WWE Star Officially Ends
Since announcing his farewell tour, John Cena has made waves, even turning heel and claiming a record-breaking 17th WWE Championship. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cena confirmed that he has had his last match with industry veteran Randy Orton.
While reflecting on their decades-long rivalry, he said the following:
On the WWE side, we’re just taking them one at a time. We did our last one in St. Louis. I had my last match with Randy Orton and that was pretty cool to call, kinda put a close on that 25-year rivalry. So, it’s, you know, as every chapter happens, it’s a different feeling for everyone.
14-time champion Orton challenged Cena at WWE Backlash, reigniting their rivalry. In a scintillating back-and-forth action, the champion retained his title after hitting ‘the Viper’ with the belt for a pinfall.
WWE Veteran Believes There Is One More John Cena-Randy Orton Match To Be Had
Wrestling veteran Greg Gagne was one of the few people who backed Orton to beat Cena at Backlash. He even went on to say it will be Orton who ends Cena’s title reign, regardless of the outcome at the pay-per-view.
When asked for his prediction on Straight Talk with the Boss, the 76-year-old said:
[John Cena vs. Randy Orton, who you got?] Orton. I’m going Orton. Unless they try to get a rematch with Randy and John. I mean, John has how many dates left? Then they might do something where they leave it a little up in the air. But I think Randy’s gonna be the one to take it from him, eventually. If it’s not this time, it’ll be down the road before he quits.
While WWE fans continue to speculate Cena’s future opponents, Orton may be itching to challenge him one more time, considering how their match at Backlash ended. Meanwhile, in his next challenge, Cena will face R-Truth at Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 24.
