John Cena’s Father Publicly Opposes WWE’s Rumored Plans For Son
John Cena has just one match left in his wrestling career.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII, he will challenge the winner of the ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament in Washington, DC.
On the December 1 episode of WWE RAW, LA Knight defeated Jey Uso to advance to the final. In another match, Gunther beat Solo Sikoa.
For weeks, a John Cena vs. Gunther match has been in the works, all set to culminate at SNME, and with The Ring General now in the final, that seems to be the likely finish.
However, the idea has received opposition from Cena’s father, who has been a long-standing patron of wrestling.
While appearing on the All Axxess Podcast, he disputed the notion about a veteran wrestler putting over a young talent, in the process passing the torch for someone to carry the business in his stead.
Well, it certainly wouldn’t be Gunther, that’s for sure. I don’t think that’s a wise move. I don’t think the fans would enjoy that move. Myself personally, Gunther does not need the rub. And by the way, I am not a fan of, on the way out you have got to push somebody over the top. You’re supposed to pass ‘the torch.’ I don’t know whether that’s written anywhere in professional wrestling.
John Cena Has Already Put Over Dominik Mysterio
At Survivor Series: WarGames, John Cena defended his Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio.
The match was marred by incidents like wrestler “injury,” referee bumps, and interferences.
First, it was Mysterio faking an injury after failing to execute a hurricarana. Then, Cena accidentally took out referee Chad Patton, and finally, Liv Morgan interfered, faking an attack on Mysterio before actually attacking Cena.
Dominik then hit Cena with a 619, followed by Morgan hitting him with the IC title. Mysterio subsequently hit the Frog Splash for the successful pinfall.
